Do all IT consultants work in the same way?
No. Basically there are 2 different kinds of consultants:
- Contract consultants or incorporated employees. Members of this group
normally devote 100% of their time to a one single project or a single
customer. Most of them charge an hourly rate for their services.
- Real consultants. Real consultants are normally only on a project when
progress can be made. Real consultants normally bill on a
per project basis.
What are my benefits when I hire real consultants?
Because real consultants do not sell 100% of their time to a single
customer, they are available for you and your project even if the project is
in a later point of its lifecycle. You don't loose knowledge when your
project team moves on.
You can continue to work with people who know the project inside out,
even if you don't need them 100%.
Do I need to be afraid of loosing control, if consultants are not 100% under my
supervision?
No. Real consultants are result driven and have a support infrastructure
that allows them to be very productive. Consultants are in the business to
provide professional services - much like a lawyer or a physician.
You will receive step-by-step reports about the results achieved, and
there you will be able take corrective measures, if necessary.
Aren't consultants much more expensive than employees?
It very much depends on the way you look at it.
In the business world, it pays off if you look at the for risk adjusted
cost. Fact is, that if you hire consultants, these consultants will bear a
substantial amount of business risk and other costs.
These risks and costs would be yours to bear if you hire
employees. Consultants have less fluctuation.
How about project quality?
Because our goal is to work with our customers the full lifecycle of
their projects, we understand that highest quality is one of the most important
parts of our business.
